In May 2023, Uzbekistan will participate in the international photo contest "Wiki Loves Earth". We invite all photo enthusiasts to take part in the contest which will help to attract the attention of the world community to the nature of the country and the development of eco-tourism.
The purpose of the contest is to collect photos of protected natural areas – nature reserves, national parks, picturesque areas, landscape zones, gardens to illustrate articles in the World Free Encyclopedia Wikipedia and other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation.
Moreover, the participants of competition encompasses more than 37 countries of the world. The traditional competition has been held annually since 2013.
The republican stage of the contest was organized by a group of Uzbek-speaking Wikimedians jointly with members of the Russian community "Wikivoyage" with the support of UNESCO, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Uzbekistan and the Wikimedia Foundation.
This year competition includes the following two categories: landscapes (including individual trees, if they are considered natural monuments) and macro photos (animals, plants, mushrooms).
At the local level, the selection of winners can be up to 15 winners, no more than 10 from each category. The organizers may decide not to divide local winners into categories and/or choose fewer photos (for instance, 10 pieces). An international jury will select up to 20 photos, no more than 10 from each category.
The winners of the contest will be awarded valuable prizes from the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan and vouchers from the Wikimedia Foundation in the amount of 8.5 million sums for purchases in the online store.
