During the visit to Switzerland, the Minister of Natural Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Aziz Abduhakimov, а meeting was held with the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (EEC), O. Algayerova, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN, the Director of the Environment Department of the EEC, M. Kayner, the EEC Regional Advisor, S. Radnaaragchaa, and A. Karadjova, Secretary of the Convention on Transboundary Pollution (Air Convention).
At the meeting when was held on May 2, O. Algayerova noted that the Tashkent International Investment Forum was organized at a high level and thanked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for this. She noted that the forum is becoming a regional hub for the development of "green" investments in transport, tourism, education, and other important areas. In its place, regulatory legal documents on attracting foreign investors in the field of "green" investments, in particular in the area of waste and carbon emissions calculation systems, and optimizing the public-private partnership system for local entrepreneurs based on international standards and principles will be revised by the international experts of YEIK after an agreement is reached. In addition, taking into account the high level of air pollution in cities, it was agreed with the Secretary of the Air Convention to develop a plan of measures to improve air quality based on international methodology, legal instruments, and best practices during the period of ratification and prospects of joining the Convention. It is worth noting that the Deputy Secretary General of the UN visited Samarkand within the framework of the forum and, at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, recognized the trees planted in Registan within the framework of the meeting of the Organization of Turkic States.
It was reported that this will be shown as a model in the "Trees in Cities" initiative of YEIK. Taking into account the above, it was agreed to integrate the statistics of trees planted within the framework of "Green Space" into the "Trees in Cities" initiative and to include large cities in Uzbekistan in the system of green coverings along with European cities. At the end of the meeting, the UN Economic Commission for Europe will host three major UN events in Samarkand: the Global Action on Desertification (UNCCD CRIC-21), the 14th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP-14), and the World Tourism Organization(UNWTO) was invited to the 25th session of the General Assembly.
