The falcon is a bird of prey, widespread in the world. The scientific name Falco means "sickle", which emphasizes the crescent shape of the wings in flight.

Several species of birds from the falcon family live in the territory of Uzbekistan. Among them are the gyrfalcon, laggard, hobby, merlin, falcon, common kestrel, steppe kestrel, peregrine falcon, saker falcon, and red-headed falcon (shahin), the last 4 of which are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.

As part of the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP14), on February 15, the “Global Action Plan for Falcon Conservation” will be discussed.
