Every year on March 23, at the initiative of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) under the auspices of the United Nations, the World Meteorological Day  is held. The event involved 191 States and the territory of WMO.

On March 23, 1950, the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO, World Meteorological Organization) entered into force, which declared the formation of the Organization. The motto of the holiday were the words: "Weather, climate and water in the information age." And the holiday itself is celebrated since 1961.

First of all, the World Meteorological Organization deals with weather, climate and water, and the countries that are part of it have successfully cooperated for many years, exchanging operational data on the state of the atmosphere, land, seas, oceans, rivers, on the basis of which weather forecasts are made and warnings of hydrometeorological hazards. Among the most significant achievements of WMO is the creation of a worldwide climate research program and the creation of a World Weather Watch.
