The Environmental Control Inspectorate of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change conducted another raid in the coastal zone of the Chirchik River flowing through the territory of the Sergeli district of Tashkent city.

During the raid, it was found that sand and gravel were extracted in the protected area of the river with the help of 1 excavator and 2 trucks, and the remains of construction concrete were laid instead. The vehicles were stopped at the scene.

During the study, it was found that these works were carried out without any permission using equipment owned by GRM LLC (abbreviated company name).

It also became known that, according to the decree of the khokim of the Sergeli district dated August 26, 2019, in order to carry out landscaping work, 2.26 hectares of land located in the Construction Quarter of the Sergeli district were assigned to GRM LLC. Paragraph 3 of the order provides for the planting of flowers and tree seedlings on this territory, and paragraph 4 warns that the placement of construction and other debris on the attached territory will entail liability.

As a result of the violation of the requirements of the resolution, articles 22 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Nature Protection" and 41 of the Law "On Protected Natural Territories" were violated. As a result of the extraction of sand and gravel products, damage was caused to 21.4 billion sums, and as a result of illegal waste disposal - 112.5 million sums.

In addition, based on a letter from the Prosecutor General's Office, studies were conducted on another section of the Chirchik River flowing through the Sergeli district of Tashkent city. As a result, it became known that illegal extraction of sand and gravel was carried out on an area of about 4 hectares in the protected area of the river and along the coast. The amount of damage to nature amounted to about 62.3 billion sums.

All documents were sent to the Prosecutor General's Office in order to give a legal assessment of the two above-mentioned cases, take legal measures against the perpetrators, and compensate for damage caused to nature.
