Humanity has a direct negative impact on the environment through the use of natural resources. The development of industry and agriculture, as well as the large-scale exploitation of natural territories, leads to a disruption of the ecological balance. As a result, plants are decreasing, which leads to a reduction in the gene pool.
Currently, Uzbekistan has 4,500 rare endemic and relic species, more than 300 of which require serious protection.
It should be noted that the population of many wild species, including the medicinal plant Tajik Ferula, is rapidly declining, which is a very alarming situation.
According to the classification developed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the endangered Tajik Ferula is found in southern Tajikistan, southwestern Pamir-Alay, and southern Uzbekistan (Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions).
The sticky resin of Ferula is used in medicine as a medicinal and tonic for vascular diseases, pulmonary tuberculosis, plague, whooping cough, toothache, nervous and other diseases.
In order to prevent its complete disappearance, this naturally occurring plant species has been included in the Red Book, and a three-year moratorium has been introduced by Presidential Decree No. UP-24 of February 16, 2023.
But even with this, the requirements of the law are grossly violated by some citizens. In particular, 7 criminal cases have been initiated, and investigative actions are being taken in connection with causing damage to nature on an especially large scale. Thus, in the Kashkadarya region, 4 cases are being investigated regarding the damage to 4,872 Tajik Ferula plants worth 2 billion 411 million 640 thousand soums, while in the Surkhandarya region, 3 cases of damage to 659 of these plants worth 326 million 799 thousand soums are being investigated.
The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, together with the Prosecutor General's Office, continues to carry out measures to investigate territories for compliance with the moratorium on damage to Tajik Ferula.
