Uzbekistan has declared the Sudoche Lake system as a Wetland of International Importance. An article about this has been published on the official website of the Ramsar Convention.

The article notes that Sudochye was a bay of the Aral Sea, which in the 1960s was considered the fourth largest lake in the world. It also mentions the presence of dense reed thickets, bushes, salt marshes and saxaul plantations on the territory of the lake.

"National and foreign tourists come to study the historical connection of this object with the Aral Sea and to see the remains of the settlement. Local residents use the lake for fishing and collecting reeds for livestock feed and construction materials," the article says.

Drought was also identified as one of the main problems in Sudochye.

For reference, in May of this year, Sudoche became the fourth object in Uzbekistan to be included in the list of Ramsar wetlands of international importance. Previously, such objects as Dengizkul Lake in 2001, Aidar-Arnasay Lake System in 2008, and Tudakul Lake and Kuyumazor Reservoir in 2020 were included in the Ramsar list.
